I joined the British Army at 21, after several years of popping from one job to another, and stayed for 25years, during which time I engaged with education for the first time at the age of 36 when I completed GCSE English and mathematics. I got the bug and after retiring from the army at 44 I developed the Creative Apprenticeships programme in Liverpool and have now been with the NHS since 2008. I am also an National Apprenticeship Service Ambassador, college governor and the hat was for charity.
